In all of our moves around the Boston area, we compiled a some moving tips, but overtime we have learned from our customers that there are two tips in particular that seemed to make their moving experience much easier. We would like everyone who is moving to know what our customers have learned.
 
Start early. In fact it is never too early to begin packing for your move. As soon as you know that you are moving, you should start organizing and thinking about the move. Moving is a very time consuming process and there are a lot of rooms to pack. If you are not a seasoned mover, most likely you will be surprised at how much time it takes to organize for your move.

Begin packing items you rarely use, like your china cabinet, seasonal clothes or formal living room.

Create “Open First” boxes and pack some suitcases. A big challenge in moving is trying to find what you need in your new home. Solve this by packing a suitcase for each person in your family with the necessary items for about 3 days. Keep these suitcases handy for when you arrive. Also, create an "open first" box for each room. Label these boxes in a different color, so they are easily found among the other boxes. These moving boxes may include items like soap, dish soap, coffee maker and coffee, toilet paper, towels, silverware, and some snacks.  These boxes will make the first overnight in your new home much easier.

From now until March 31, 2010, Marathon Moving Company in conjunction with Stevens Worldwide Van Lines will make a donation to World Vision for each long-distance household goods move that Stevens or any of its agents perform. The donations will go directly to World Vision relief efforts for earthquake victims in Haiti. Stevens and its network of nearly 150 agents nationwide provide residential moving, commercial moving, and storage services for local moves, interstate moves, and international moves. Stevens and its agents move thousands of families every year.

World Vision is an international humanitarian charity organization dedicated to working with children and families in their communities. World Vision had more than 300 staff working in Haiti at the time of the earthquake. At this time, the charity has more than 800 workers in Haiti providing assistance including food, clean water, blankets, tents, medical supplies and more. "As we are moving families into their new homes, and as our customers are starting new chapters of their lives, we want to do something to help the people of Haiti to rebuilt their homes and their lives," said Joseph Biskner, Stevens' president and chief operating officer. "We looked at a variety of ways to help, and we took advice from the professional relief organizations. They say that the specific needs can change quickly -- and vary greatly. They may need antibiotics and other medical supplies or shoes or tents or building materials," Biskner said. "Those on the ground in Haiti and those who are actually shipping the supplies know what is needed -- and they need the money to acquire those items."
