When trying to find
a moving company, there’s a good chance you’ve heard the name
“FMCSA” thrown around. But, what is the
FMSCA and what does it do?
FMCSA
is more than a bunch of letters, it stands for Federal Motor Carrier
Safety Administration. It was created by the US Department of
Transportation to help ensure that motor carriers (i.e., moving
companies) operate safely and are properly managed, the goal being to
reduce casualties and fatal accidents caused by motor carriers. In order
to implement their regulations, the
FMCSA requires that all motor carriers register with them. Here are some specific things the
FMCSA does:
- Collects data to create protective rules and regulations as well as a safety information system for high-risk drivers
- Makes certain that motor carriers carry proper insurance with sufficient limits
- Educates drivers, carriers, and the public about safety measures in place
- Establishes programs for granting commercial driver’s licenses
- Researches and analyzing road safety statistics
- Sets up motor carrier safety assistance programs
When you choose a mover, makes sure it registered with the
FMCSA.
Movers that aren’t registered are operating outside of the law, and
shouldn’t be trusted with your belongings. We know that finding
