You Have Made the Big Step in Moving, But Now What do You do After the Move?

Joseph Coupal - Monday, January 24, 2011
Moving can be a very stressful experience, but it can also offer the opportunity for a fresh start. That’s why you have to be well prepared and organized for your move. But even after the move is done, there are still things that have to be finished. Here are some tips that can help you to ease the stress after your move.
  1. Take it slow. Make sure you give yourself time to relax since the move is finally over. You don’t need to unpack everything the same day you move. Unpack only stuff that you really need. You certainly didn’t pack everything in a day, so don’t try to unpack everything in one day either. Spend some quality time with your family.
  2. Have fun. Take time to walk around and explore your new neighborhood. It’s a good idea to find shopping areas, police station, gas stations and hospitals near your home.
  3. New Friends. Moving is a great opportunity to meet new friends. Be on the look-out for neighbors and introduce yourself to them. You can also invite your new neighbors to get better known of each other.
  4. Get everyone involved. Allow your kids to be a part of the unpacking process. If they are old enough, it’s even better to let him to decorate their new bedrooms. That way the move will be much less stressful for them. Setting their new bedrooms should be also your first priority to help them get comfortable in their new home. If you are worried that your children will not handle properly the decoration of their new room, at least let them do decide where their beds will go in the room. It is not unusual for kids to find it quite difficult to sleep in the unfamiliar surroundings of your new home, so you need to give them all support and help they need to get over that as quickly as possible.
  5. Big Party. There is a lot more to do for kids then just setting up their new bedrooms. You can organize a big party for them while inviting their old friends. You can also invite your friends over and have a cook out. This is a great opportunity to get to know your neighbors as well.
Don’t forget to contact the DMV to to register your car and to change your driver’s license if you have moved to a different state. You will also have to register to vote. But those things can come later on after everyone is settled in. But in the end it will take some time for you and your family to begin to feel your new place like home. Hold Off On Disposing Your Moving Boxes and Paper

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, June 17, 2010
So you know for sure that you unpacked that item but for the life of you it is nowhere to be found. Accidental disposal of household goods during the unpacking process happens. In fact, it happens all too often. It’s really no big deal if the missing item is an inexpensive and easily replaced store-bought item, but that treasured photo or trinket is another story altogether.

When unpacking, replace the packing paper in boxes labeled for the same room. Break down each room’s boxes that are not used to store the used packing paper. In the event you are forced to search for a missing items, at least you will have a targeted search. And for the same reason, don’t be quick to permanently dispose of your moving boxes and paper. It may take a day or two to even realize something is missing. You’ll be out of luck if your boxes have already been disposed of.
